René Garrido Lazo es Profesor Asociado del Departamento de Ingeniería Geoespacial y Ambiental de la Universidad de Santiago de Chile. Es Ingeniero Civil Químico de la Universidad de Santiago de Chile y Doctor (Ph.D.) en Ingeniería Química de Villanova University (Estados Unidos), donde obtuvo además el Sustainable Engineering Certificate.

Su investigación busca alternativas de conversión de residuos orgánicos en productos de alto valor agregado, con énfasis en tecnologías de conversión de biomasa (pirólisis, gasificación y carbonización hidrotermal), la producción de hidrógeno verde, la sostenibilidad y la evaluación de impactos mediante el análisis del ciclo de vida (ACV).
